the studio suite
A home that happens to be available for a few days
The studio occupies the lower ground floor of an authentic Spanish Mission home in Balgowlah. It has its own private entrance, its own bathroom, and its own private courtyard. No shared corridors, no key lockbox, no lobby. Just a carefully considered space that is entirely your own from the moment Jules hands you the key.
The interior is styled with restraint. White rendered walls run throughout. The floors are cool tiles, easy after a day at the beach. Bright, clean, and airy. The furniture is natural: a round elm dining table, rattan and cane chairs with linen cushions, a sofa in soft sand tones. A vintage brass lamp sits on the dining table. Stacked books and ceramic vessels are placed with care. Nothing is accidental.
The French doors are black-framed and open directly to the private walled courtyard. That connection, between the quiet interior and the Mediterranean garden beyond, is the defining feature of the space. Guests consistently name the courtyard as what they remember most.
Jules and Andrew live upstairs. The studio is fully separate from their living area, but they are there if anything is needed. On your first morning, there is fresh bread, butter, jam, biscuits, tea, and coffee waiting on the bench.
the private courtyard · guests only
A walled Mediterranean garden. Yours alone for the length of your stay.
The private walled courtyard at Bare Studio is enclosed, Mediterranean in character, and entirely separate from any shared space. Terracotta brick paving. White rendered walls with ornate iron grille niches. White slipcover armchairs. Potted citrus and rosemary. A fire bowl for cooler evenings.
Guests describe sitting in the courtyard with a morning coffee as one of the defining memories of their stay. It is quiet in a way that Manly itself never quite is. Enclosed by walls, open to sky, with birdsong and the neighbourhood at its most settled.
The French doors from the studio open directly onto the courtyard. That transition, from the cool, light interior to the warm brick and white walls outside, is the heart of the Bare Studio experience.

about the kitchen
Set up for comfortable self-catering. Honestly.
The kitchen at Bare Studio is well equipped for simple breakfasts, light meals, and easy self-catering. It is not a full chef’s kitchen, and this page will not pretend otherwise.
A two-plate electric cooktop, microwave, fridge, toaster, kettle, full crockery, cutlery, wine glasses, and cooking basics. Everything needed for eggs and toast in the morning, a pasta in the evening, or a glass of wine in the courtyard. For days when you would rather someone else did the cooking, there are good cafés and restaurants a short walk away on Sydney Road and in Fairlight village. Jules will happily point you to her favourites.
On your first morning, fresh bread, butter, jam, biscuits, tea, and coffee are waiting on the bench. That moment, arriving in your own space to find someone has already thought about you, is what guests most consistently remember.

questions about the suite
Everything guests ask before they book
If something is not answered here, send Jules a message and she will reply promptly.
Is the studio fully self-contained?
Yes, completely. The studio has its own private entrance, its own bathroom, its own kitchen, and its own private courtyard. There is no shared space with Jules and Andrew. Their living area is entirely separate on the upper floor. You come and go as you please, at any hour, without disturbing anyone.
Is the kitchen set up for self-catering?
The kitchen is well equipped for comfortable self-catering: two-plate electric cooktop, microwave, fridge, toaster, kettle, full crockery, cutlery, and wine glasses. It is not a restaurant kitchen. For mornings when you would rather someone else cooked, there are good cafés a short walk away on Sydney Road and in Fairlight village. Jules will point you to her favourites.
What is the private courtyard like?
The courtyard is enclosed, walled, and entirely private. It is reached only from the studio, through the black-framed French doors. It is paved with terracotta brick, has white rendered walls with ornate iron grille niches, and is furnished with white slipcover armchairs and a fire bowl. Potted citrus and rosemary. It is quiet and genuinely peaceful. Guests consistently describe it as the highlight of their stay.
How many people does the studio sleep?
Up to three guests comfortably. The standard rate of $200 per night is for two guests. A third guest is available at an additional nightly charge. A cot is available on request if you are travelling with a young child. Just mention it in your enquiry.
Is the bed comfortable?
The queen bed is consistently well reviewed. Several guests have specifically mentioned sleeping well. If you have particular pillow preferences, mention it in your enquiry and Jules will do what she can.
Is the studio step-free? Is it accessible?
Yes. The studio is single-level throughout with step-free access. This makes it particularly suitable for older guests and anyone who prefers not to deal with stairs. Jules is happy to discuss any specific accessibility needs in advance.
Is there laundry? What about parking?
Yes to both. A Bosch washing machine and dryer are available for guest use. Street parking is available outside the property. Balgowlah is a quiet residential suburb and parking is generally straightforward.
What is the minimum stay? Can I book for just one night?
The minimum stay is two nights. For longer stays of a week or more, send Jules a message and she will discuss the details directly. Longer stays are very welcome.
How do I book? Do I have to go through Airbnb?
You can enquire and book directly through this website. Fill in the form with your preferred dates and Jules will reply promptly to confirm availability. Booking direct means you deal with Jules personally from the first message. No platform, no algorithm.
